Billboard 2009 Artists of the Year comments (0)

2. As Kanye West infamously pointed out at the 2009 VMAs, Beyonce made one of the best videos of all-time. "Out of all my videos, ("Single Ladies") was the least expensive and took the least amount of time, and it ended up being the most iconic," Billboard's 2009 Woman of the Year reflects. "But once we got on the set, it was like, wait a minute. This is something special." Not only did the ubiquitous clip inspire thousands of YouTube imitations, it also helped push her "I Am... Sasha Fierce" album to last over a year on the Billboard 200 chart.

Beyonce is EW's Hottie of the Decade comments (0)
11 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
EW: Beyoncé's videography — from her Destiny's Child days right up to her latest solo CD — plays like a case study in bootylicious fantasy fulfillment. Whether slithering through the jungle as a scantily clad castaway in ''Survivor,'' strutting through a concrete landscape in high heels and Daisy Dukes during ''Crazy in Love,'' or cutting a now legendary black-and-white image in her ''Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)'' leotard, B's heat has been so relentless over the past decade, you almost wonder if she's at least partially responsible for global climate change. And then when you factor in her sexy turns in films like Austin Powers in Goldmember, Dreamgirls, and Obsessed, it makes a strong case for keeping Miss Knowles away from the polar ice caps.

Amy, Beyonce, Kanye, made decade's best albums comments (0)
11 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
The first decade of the new millennium produced some amazing albums, CDs that should go down with the best works of art. You might not find those albums on this list — which doesn't mean this list isn't the best of the decade. But for an album to make the cut, it had to be more than just something to appreciate and put on a shelf. It had to be something you couldn't live without, that you had on your go-to playlist, that you listened to not just the year it came out ... but in the years since.

7. "B'day," Beyonce: Beyonce could have chosen to make "Dangerously in Love 2" for her sophomore debut. Instead, she took a musical risk by trying out different sonic styles, from the futuristic funk of "Green Light" to the acoustic brilliance of "Irreplaceable." With "B'day" Beyonce established herself not only as this decade's most important hitmaker, but also established her artistic heft.

Alicia Keys: Beyonce is like sister comments (0)
11 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
The pair got together to record a duet - called Put It In A Love Song - for Alicia's new album The Element Of Freedom, and the singer said they had a blast. "Her and I together was like reunited sisters - most people get in the studio and don't get a chance to really collaborate, be in one room, we were in one room having a ball," she gushed. She added: "The energy was incredible. It was just unreal." But Alicia - who worked with Jay-Z on the hit Empire State Of Mind - doesn't want to stop there. "I'd love to collaborate with Gwen Stefani, Kings Of Leon," she said. "MIA I think would be crazy, Prince would be unbelievable."

Beyonce talking Vegas shows with Wynn, but no deal comments (0)
11 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
Wynn Las Vegas officials say they're in preliminary talks with Beyonce to bring the superstar singer back to the Las Vegas resort. Wynn Resorts spokeswoman Jennifer Dunne says there's no deal yet, despite published rumors of a lucrative, long-term contract. Beyonce appeared at the resort from July 30 through Aug. 2 this year while filming a concert DVD. Her shows helped boost visitation to Wynn and its sister Encore Las Vegas resort during a typically slow tourist season in Las Vegas. Beyonce sang in the Encore Theater, where country star Garth Brooks plans to play a series of solo acoustic shows starting on Friday. Brooks' deal puts him in Las Vegas 15 weeks a year for possibly the next five years.

Beyonce Tops List of Celebrity Stumblers comments (0)
06 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
Beyonce may have been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards this week but she has also topped the celebrity stumbler list. Although she would have us believe it was part of her dance routine, J-Lo’s recent stage-tumble at the American Music Awards is proof that even the most co-ordinated individuals can have an off-day. La Lopez was strutting her stuff to new single 'Louboutins’, climbing onto a human pyramid of semi-naked performers, when she slipped and fell back onto the stage. Ever the professional, J-Lo quickly recovered, later claiming the move was choreographed...

Beyonce tops Grammy nominations with 10 nods comments (0)
03 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
Beyonce topped the list of nominees for the 52nd Grammy Awards, leading the way with 10 nods ahead of teenage country star Taylor Swift with eight. R&B superstar Beyonce scooped nominations in the coveted record of the year and album of the year categories, for her single "Halo" and her chart-topping double-album "I Am ... Sasha Fierce." The former "Destiny's Child" singer also picked up a nod in the song of the year category. But Beyonce is likely to face fierce competition in the major categories from Swift, eccentric songstress Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas, who all earned nominations in best album, record and song. Trailing Beyonce and Swift in overall nominations were the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Kanye West with six nods each.

TV talent shows make Beyonce cry comments (0)
02 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
The Irreplaceable hitmaker has confessed that she cries whenever she watches TV talent competitions because it reminds her of the struggle she faced early on in her career. The singer said that she often wells up when she sees an act worthy of recognition. "I don''t watch much television but I''ve watched those shows and I''ve cried, I''ve welled up, I''m like, ''Oh my God, I hope they win, I hope they get a chance,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. "And me being from Houston, Texas, there weren''t many outlets for me and for the girls (in Destiny''s Child)," she added.

Should Beyonce and of Montreal Collaborate? comments (0)
01 Dec 2009 by BorgQueen
Beyonce, the most recent queen of pop – who has nabbed “Woman of the Year” title from Billboard and the subject of Kanye West’s humiliating rant at the MTV Video music awards – may be going out further into the vast ocean of music than we thought she could. She has recently perked the ears of many music critics out there when she recently told The Guardian that she could possibly work with indie pop group, of Montreal. Who do we have to thank for this? None other than her younger sister, Solange. Not only has little Knowles been in our good graces in the past by introducing Beyonce and Jay-Z to Grizzly Bear then covering Dirty Projectors’ “Stillness Is the Move,” but now this? It just goes to prove that the younger generation isn’t always so naive.

Beyonce and Jay-Z spotted in Boom Boom Room comments (0)
30 Nov 2009 by BorgQueen
Marie-Joëlle Parent : I finally found my way in the most exclusive nightclub in New York right now: Boom Boom Room, hotel mogul Andre Balazs's latest signature. This place is so exclusive, no matter what you look like or how much money you have, you need to be on that damn list. After being eye-scanned by Mima, the über selective door girl, I jumped into the elevator and pushed the 18th floor button. The first thing I saw was a breathtaking 360-degree views of Manhattan and Jay-Z and Beyoncé canoodling on one of the leather banquettes. This place is definitely the hottest spot in town. The club sits atop the new Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. No doubt why it's so strict, the club is filled every night with celebs like Madonna, Penelope Cruz, Jude Law, Bon Jovi, Lindsay Lohan and Josh Harnett, since its opening two months ago. The place was even nicknamed the new Studio 54.

Beyoncé: artist of the decade comments (0)
29 Nov 2009 by BorgQueen
It was 10 years ago that Beyoncé Knowles announced herself to the world, with the Destiny's Child hit Independent Women. Since then the 28-year-old singerhas made the decade's best single, delivered the greatest live show on earth, sung for President Obama and emerged as our last true star. Why Beyoncé? Why this stunning 28-year-old singer/performer/actress/businesswoman from Texas now married to one of the decade's other biggest stars, and worth something like $87m a year to boot, and not, well, take your pick...? Because she made not one but two of the decade's greatest singles, with Crazy in Love and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), not to mention her hits with Destiny's Child; and this was the decade when singles – particularly R&B singles – regained their status as pop's favourite medium. (But her three solo albums? Pretty fabulous, too.) Because at a time when the ubiquity of TV talent shows put the onus on those who could cut it live more than ever, she and not any superannuated rock star was arguably the greatest live performer of the past 10 years.

Beyoncé buys Icelandic clothes at Topshop London comments (0)
28 Nov 2009 by BorgQueen
The American pop star Beyoncé Knowles arrived unannounced at a London Topshop yesterday to buy leggings from the Icelandic E-Label brand. E-Label has only been available at Topshop for a few weeks, so the Icelandic designers and Topshop workers were equally surprised to see the Destiny’s Child star. Shop workers offered to close the store for Beyoncé and her bodyguards, but she declined the offer.

Beyonce hits the bargain trail in Dublin comments (0)
28 Nov 2009 by BorgQueen
Beyonce is said to be worth over $300 million but when she went shopping in Dublin this week she was intent on bargain hunting. The superstar was seen on Grafton Street, the main shopping street in Dublin and bought a $100 black and silver sequined skirt along with a $100 black and white jumpsuit. Sources said there was no diva-like behavior, no demand the store be closed while she was shopping, she was said to be friendly and nice to everyone she met. "Beyonce came in for about a half an hour and was accompanied by two bodyguards," one onlooker told the Evening Herald."She wasn't in the least bit precious and didn't look for any extra attention from the staff because of who she was. "She was very nice and courteous to the other shoppers who were there at the time and seemed very impressed by the clothes they had. "Beyonce was saying to her minders that the outfits would be perfect on stage or when she has to make any public appearances and told the staff 'the more glitter and sparkles the better'," they added. The star returned to Ireland for two sell-out appearances at the O2 arena in Dublin last Sunday and Monday night, and went to Belfast on Tuesday.

Beyoncé Is Yours on Thanksgiving comments (0)
26 Nov 2009 by BorgQueen
Too tired to move after inhaling your Thanksgiving dinner? Just watch Beyoncé burn some calories instead. We wouldn't exactly call it different—or even "a little different"—but the diva's Turkey Day concert special, Beyonce: I Am…Yours promises to be a whole lot of fun. While the one-hour ABC event mainly consists of footage from Beyoncé's ongoing I Am tour—in particular, her show at the Wynn Las Vegas—fans will also be privy to some behind-the-scenes action, including rehearsals, the artist otherwise known as Sasha Fierce kidding around with her crew backstage, and home video of the 28-year-old hitmaker preening for the camera when she was merely destiny's child. So it's funny that the night's second act features a fellow who was riling all the single ladies into a frenzy long before Beyoncé ever sang into a hairbrush microphone...

"This is my last show for this tour in the U.K., so hopefully, I'll see you all in a year with a new album," a raspy-voiced Beyonce told the crowd at the end of the set, before thanking them "from the bottom of my heart" for coming to the show. Producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins confirmed the news on Twitter, recently posting the news that he's working on some tracks for Beyonce's upcoming album.

Beyonce's 2003 song 'Crazy In Love' has been voted the greatest song of the decade by British music magazine NME. Coming in second was MGMT's 'Time To Pretend', followed by the Strokes' 'Hard To Explain', M.I.A.'s 'Paper Planes' and Outkast's monster hit 'Hey Ya!'. Outkast had another close runner up with 'Ms Jackson' – the only other group to get two songs in the magazine's top 20 was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with 'Maps' and 'Bang'.
