Beyonce on a 'veg and water' diet comments (0)
08 Feb 2009 by BorgQueen
Beyonce has talked about the pressure to look good and says her mother, Tina Knowles, and her stylists let her know when she needs to cut down on her eating. The Bootylicious singer said she runs around two and-a-half miles every day, but discussed the monotony of dieting with Cosmopolitan magazine. She was asked if anyone has ever told her to eat less. "My stylists mention it when the clothes aren't fitting any more!" she said. "And my mum tells me, yeah... I go through phases. "Right now I'm eating veg and drinking water... it's boring. Usually when I get 5-8lb heavier than my ideal weight, I'll start eating healthily and make an effort to exercise more."

Etta James says she was mocking Beyonce for laughs comments (0)
08 Feb 2009 by BorgQueen
Etta James says she was joking when she said she "can't stand Beyonce" and would "whip" the singer for performing James' hit "At Last" at an inaugural ball for President Barack Obama. The 71-year-old singer tells the New York Daily News she "didn't really mean anything" by her remarks at a concert last week. James says: "Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude. ... That's probably what went into it." Even so, James says it stung that she wasn't asked to sing her most famous song on the historic night. James says she liked Beyonce's version but thinks she could have done a better job. She says it's "a shame to say that." Beyonce portrayed James — and sang the 1941 song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren — in the film "Cadillac Records" last year. Beyonce's spokeswoman did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

When Lorraine Schwartz hosts a party, prepare for a late start, bottle service and celebrities — lots of celebrities. Such was the case on Saturday night when Schwartz hosted a fete to celebrate H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the U.S., along with co-host Pharrell Williams and Denise Rich. After a private dinner earlier in the evening, the likes of Patti LaBelle, Ashanti, Rachel McAdams, Josh Lucas and Beyoncé Knowles swarmed in at around midnight and danced to DJ Cassidy’s tunes. And while the party was theoretically all about Otaiba — Schwartz is often commissioned to create pieces for his country’s royal family — once Knowles started shimmying and glittering in Schwartz’s jewels and a clinging Hervé Léger gown, all eyes were on her. “She’s my muse,” said Schwartz of Beyoncé, whom she outfitted in jewels most recently for the Golden Globes and Inauguration night. “She’s the best canvas an artist can have.”

President Obama says he and Beyoncé have dance moves in common. He told reporters this week that he can do some of Bey's "Single Ladies" choreography, but you won't catch him sporting the black leotard that Bey wore in her video. He added, "I didn't want my girls thinking that I couldn't, you know... I got a lil something."

Why did Justin Timberlake drop his robe for Beyonce? comments (0)

What did it take for Justin Timberlake to allay Beyonce's anxiety about their SNL "Single Ladies" video skit? When Beyonce admitted she was having second thoughts about that infamous sketch in which Timberlake was to "audition" for her video, he came to her dressing room wearing a robe. A robe covering that leotard. Then he dropped the robe and stood there, just staring into space. Beyonce reportedly replied, "I can't look anywhere but your face right now," Timberlake reveals to CBS' Katie Couric in an interview that will air on next week's pre-Grammy special.

Hip-hop artist Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce are obsessed with modern art and now want to open a gallery near home. According to mirror.co.uk, the couple spent quite a bit of money and Jay-Z now considers himself a critic. He even wants to open a gallery close to his Manhattan home. Jay-Z said: 'Bey is really into art and now I am too. I'm building a collection but at the moment I am just buying things I like and seeing where it takes me. I have a lot of pieces from Damien Hirst and Richard Price - they are incredible artists. Damien Hirst's Beat Life, Cheat Death piece was actually inspired by one of my songs, so that was cool. When I finally hang up the microphone I could even exhibit my own collection.'

Best Song surprise: Where's Bruce and Beyonce? comments (0)
22 Jan 2009 by BorgQueen
At least one nominee for Best Song was expected -- Peter Gabriel's Down to Earth from WALL-E. The category is rounded out by two songs by Slumdog Millionaire. But what about Bruce Springsteen or Beyonce? The Boss sang the lead song from The Wrestler, and Beyonce had Once in a Lifetime from Cadillac Records. It seemed like a shoo-in that we'd see these stars on the red carpet. We may still -- but not as nominees.

The Story Behind The Song Beyonce Sang For The Obamas' First Dance comments (0)
21 Jan 2009 by BorgQueen
Once Beyonce finished singing, she and the Obamas were in tears. Moments before Beyoncé took the stage to sing for the Obamas' first dance, the president asked the crowd, "How good-looking is my wife?" and launched into a brief speech about the significance of the Neighborhood Ball and the role neighborhoods played in his election. Beyoncé, in a lavender satin gown, serenaded the couple as they shared a few laughs and quiet conversation during the dance. By the time the song was over, B and the Obamas were all in tears. The song Beyoncé sang, of course, was Etta James' "At Last." While the song has certainly taken on a new significance this year, it's got quite a history.

The reports appeared on the Internet, where it was stated that the singer had dumped her dog Munchie with staff at her record label in New York a year ago, after growing tired of his misbehaving ways. After PETA heard the allegations, it decided to check them out, and was happy to announce that Beyonce had not abandoned her pedigree mutt at Columbia.

The singer wasn't taking interviews on the train Friday, unfortunately, but her presence was an apropos kick-off to the most star-studded weekend D.C. has ever seen. Beyonce, aka Sasha Fierce, will sing “At Last” for the Obama's first dance at the Neighborhood ball on Inauguration night.
